The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is not just another electric vehicle; it’s a symbol of a new era in the automotive industry. The U.S. version of this electric van is larger than its European counterpart, catering to America’s love for big vehicles. The wheelbase of the U.S. three-row Buzz is 10 inches longer, stretching to a total of 192.4 inches, to accommodate a removable third row. This makes it a perfect fit for the American market, where consumers have shown a clear preference for larger, three-row vehicles.

A Closer Look at the Volkswagen ID.Buzz

The ID.Buzz is expected to go on sale in the U.S. market sometime in the third quarter of 2024. It will be available in two configurations at launch: a rear-wheel drive single motor variant with 282 horsepower and a targeted EPA range of about 260 miles, and an all-wheel drive version with 330 horsepower and a targeted EPA range of 252 miles.

The U.S.-spec ID.Buzz will sport a more significant 91 kWh capacity battery pack than what is available in Europe. For charging, the vehicle supports up to 200kW at a compatible DC fast charging station and 11kW for at-home AC charging.

    Inside the ID.Buzz

The interior of the ID.Buzz is a delightful blend of retro design and modern technology. The vehicle features powered rear sliding windows and rear HVAC vents. The removable third row opens up the seating to seven, while the second row can move forward or back 7.9 inches, providing flexibility for leg room and cargo space.

The infotainment system has a new architecture with more memory and a new CPU to reduce latency. It sits behind a 12.9-inch touchscreen and supports true over-the-air software updates.

While the wait for the ID.Buzz continues, it’s clear that Volkswagen has taken what it’s learned from the ID.4 and the launch of the short wheelbase ID.Buzz in Europe to enhance the U.S. version. This vehicle is not just a nod to the past, but a bold step into the future of electric mobility.
